New Hope: Alison & Ajax, the best ones.

Interview after returning from the lab to New Colony Town.

…My name is Alison and this is… I am Ajax and I would like to point out right from the start that although the results of our many years of research may be impressive, they are definitely only the beginning of development in this direction. I also believe that we could have achieved much more in this time, but the limitations of our own bodies have stopped us from doing so, which I regret.

Anticipating the question, that’s where the implant in my head came from. It improved the functioning of my frontal lobe a bit. It made my work easier, I also wanted to talk Alison into it, but she didn’t agree.

In conclusion, I think we have just taken a seemingly insignificant step that will lead to a wave of significant changes and advances in the fields of genetics and bioengineering.

Reporter: I understand that you are not entirely satisfied with the results of your work?

Ajax: To tell you the truth, I don’t think I’ve ever been satisfied. I feel like from the moment I became self-aware until now. I always thought that only when I reached the top would I feel this form of fulfillment. But my dear friend Alison was probably right when she told me that “You probably wouldn’t be satisfied even being the emperor of Evi and probably becoming a god as well”. I guess that’s just how I am, chasing the top that keeps eluding me instead of enjoying the chase itself, as Alison says.

Reporter: However, we are talking about living beings, what is your attitude towards them?

Ajax: Of course I am proud and I love our kind of daughters in my own way. They may be a bit different, more furry, but as far as I know, no one has ever worked so hard to create another human being, or beastman, as in this case. I always separate work from private life and just as I consider all my or our achievements as mediocre professionally, Desiria and Virturia have entered my, our life with their paws. It is hard to talk about separating work and life when the result of your work are living and additionally intelligent beings, maybe even more intelligent than us. The entire process of their creation is a scientific achievement, but they themselves are free citizens of Evi, just like all of us… Ring, ring – the telephone rang. Ajax answers the phone. I’m sorry, but we’ve been called to a meeting. Hmm… maybe I’ll go take care of this myself and you, Alison, finish the interview. – Ajax approaches the reporter’s ear. – She knows everything about me, I’m not necessary here, see you, Mrs. reporter and the viewers.

Reporter: Goodbye. Ms. Alison. Let’s start from the beginning, how did it all start? What does it take to become an outstanding scientist? I expect many people who want to participate in continuing your research in the future. Where do I start? Where did you start?

Alison: I think it all started with curiosity. Ever since I can remember we have always been fascinated by different experiments and on top of that Ajax never had enough, he always wanted more, faster, better, more spectacular and he has remained that way to this day. I am probably here today thanks to his determination.

But back to the point. Over time, this curiosity began to develop into plans for the future, which is how Ajax dragged me to the Alpha school for future scientists. At that time, we didn’t really know what we would be working on in the future. We simply wanted to continue our passion, this time not necessarily just for fun.

In time, we were noticed because of our impressive results and we received an offer to continue our education by studying at Sandglass University. We were then presented with the idea that this was a unique opportunity for us and that it would not be an easy path in life. Ajax agreed without hesitation and I, despite my doubts, decided to follow him after a few days of consideration. I thought then that after all, even pursuing a hobby professionally should not be that difficult.

After eight years of study, we managed to pick the fruit from the highest branch. Because we were offered a job in Lab No. 1. Work in Evi’s best lab. To find the path to immortality, right after graduation. Ajax almost smiled at this news. After all, immortality is the thing that would be most useful to someone as ambitious as him.

From the first day in the lab to today, almost 34 years have passed. Years spent working or hovering around it. Fortunately, it turned out to be an effort worth devoting so many years of our lives to. It’s possible that thanks to it we’ll even get them back. Although for now, I only dream of a very long vacation.

Reporter: You spent 34 years together in one lab, alone. How did that affect your relationship?

Alison: I feel like nothing has really changed over the years. We’re still the same friends we were when we were kids.

Reporter: There was no deeper relationship between you? From what I’ve already learned, you were alone and didn’t keep in touch with anyone other than your families?

Alison: I kindly ask for less direct questions, I don’t want them. However, I can answer this one exceptionally to put an end to the speculation. Deeper feelings on my part have appeared in our relationship. However, this happened while we were still studying. Our conversation on this topic ended with him telling me to forget about it though until We finished working on a project that was already planned at that time. He also said that maybe it would be better not to wait at all and not to get my hopes up because I know what he’s like. I think we’ll have to return to this conversation soon, it’s high time that we, together or separately, start leading a normal life after so many years of hard work.

Reporter: That’s understandable. Then I have no more questions. Thank you for the interview and I wish you happiness together or separately.

Alison: Goodbye.

Some time later.

Alison’s diary entry: Unfortunately, our conversation will have to wait. We’ve just been offered a Chronoscientist position. We’ve signed a ten-year contract, the time to be counted only when we’re out of cryosleep. This is the last time I’ll be going after that fool. We’ll be frozen most of the time, waiting for situations in the future where we’ll be needed. So that we can live to see much more distant times and discoveries. But until then, it’s time for a vacation…
